British Silver Halfcrown Coins

The British Silver Halfcrown coins are collectable and were struck by the Royal Mint. The earliest machine made coins were struck in 0.925 silver under the reign of Charles II in 1663. These were currency coins with a value of two shillings and sixpence. The British silver halfcrown coins had a weight of 14.14 grams and was issued in 0.925 silver up until 1919. From 1920 the silver was debased to 0.500 silver due to economic pressure. After World War II, in 1947, the halfcrown no longer contained silver and were made from cupronickel, a final proof coin was struck in 1970 prior to decimalization in 1971.
