British Cupro Nickel Coins

British Cupro Nickel coins are an important part of the UK’s currency history. These include the British Crown, Halfcrown, Florin, Shilling and Sixpence coins. A replacement program began in 1947 as the British government sought to reduce its use of precious metals. British Cupro Nickel Coins were struck and used alongside their silver counterparts. After decimalisation, some cupro nickel coins remained in circulation until they were either phased out or replaced by nickel-plated steel.
