Five Pounds Banknotes

However this was a printed hand written banknote. in 1853 a printed five pounds banknote replaced the handwritten ones, and the phrase “I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of twenty pounds” was introduced. This declaration is still found on Bank of England banknotes.
