This coin was issued to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first hammered gold Sovereign in 1489. It was a one-year issue and is considered a sought-after celebratory edition. The coin features Queen Elizabeth II seated on King Edward’s Coronation throne on the obverse, and a double Tudor Rose with the Royal Arms shield and an open King’s Crown on the reverse. The reverse also includes the legend “ANNIVERSARY OF THE GOLD SOVEREIGN 1489 1989”.
