The 1937 George VI Proof Florin coin was struck by the Royal Mint in the United Kingdom during the George VI era (1936-1952).  This proof coin is struck in higher quality than the circulated coin.  The obverse features the uncrowned portrait of King George VI facing left with legend around. The reverse depicts a crowned Tudor rose, this is divided by the royal cypher below a thistle and shamrock. The legend is above with denomination and date below.

The florin was introduced in 1849 as part of the British coinage’s move towards decimalization. This coin was worth 1/10th of a pound or 2 shillings. It was more commonly known as the 2 shilling coin. It is equivalent to the current ten pence coin.
