The 1918 silver Florin is a coin struck in 0.925 silver by the Royal Mint. There is an uncrowned portrait of King George V facing left, on the obverse, with legend around. The reverse is completed with the crowned cruciform shields around central Garter star, sceptres in angles, with denomination above, and divided date below.
The florin was introduced in 1849 as part of the British coinage’s move towards decimalization. This coin was worth 1/10th of a pound or 2 shillings. It was more commonly known as the 2 shilling coin. It is equivalent to the current ten pence coin.
