The 1915 Austrian gold 20 Corona restrike coin is a bullion coin that was re-struck much later than 1915. This coin was not intended for circulation. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph I, while the reverse shows a double-headed imperial eagle, the heraldic bird of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The eagle holds a sword and scepter in its right talon, and a cross-bearing orb in its left. The Hapsburg emperors chose the double-headed eagle because they believed it could look both east and west at the same time, towards both sides of their empire. The coins value and date are in both roman characters above and in numbers below.
This re-struck coin was minted after the death of Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1916 as a commemorative piece, and bears the date 1915.
