1908 King Edward VII Silver Four Coin Maundy Set In Near Mint Condition.

There is lovely even toning on both sides of each of these four coins. There are light handling marks on these coins.

This set comes with a green presentation box. The box is showing signs of wear.

The 1908 maundy coin set was struck in 0.925 silver by the Royal Mint. The Obverse of each coin features the uncrowned portrait of King Edward VII facing right, with legend around. The reverse features a crowned denomination dividing date within an oak wreath.

Maundy money is struck in denominations of one penny, twopence, threepence, and fourpence. Until the 18th century the coins were given from the circulating coinage, and it was not until the latter half of the century that the four Maundy coins developed as distinct, noncirculating pieces. In most years there are fewer than 2,000 complete sets of Maundy money issued.
