The 1896 halfpenny was struck in bronze by the Royal Mint. The obverse side of the coin depicts the older diademed and veiled portrait of Queen Victoria facing left, with legend around. This portrait is often referred to as the ‘old head or ‘vailed head’. The reverse side of the coin depicts Britannia seated to the right, the denomination around, with date in exergue, and sea behind.
This 1896 halfpenny coin had a mintage figure of 9,142,500.
