The 1894 half sovereign is a coin struck in 22 carat gold by the Royal Mint. The obverse of the coin features an older crowned and veiled bust of Queen Victoria facing to the left, with legend around. This was the third and final portrait of Queen Victoria and is often referred to as the ‘old head’. The reverse depicts St George slaying the dragon, with the date in exergue.
