The 1890 silver Florin is a coin struck in 0.925 silver by the Royal Mint. There is a crowned and veiled bust of Queen Victoria facing left, with legend around. This portrait is often referred to as the Jubilee Head. The reverse is completed with a crowned cruciform shields of England, Scotland and Ireland, sceptres with national flower emblems in angles, divided date above, with legend around.
The florin was introduced in 1849 as part of the British coinage’s move towards decimalization. This coin was worth 1/10th of a pound or 2 shillings. It was more commonly known as the 2 shilling coin. It is equivalent to the current ten pence coin.
