The 1887 Jubilee head Double Florin is a coin struck in 0.925 silver by the Royal Mint. It was produced between 1887 and 1890 as part of an unsuccessful attempt to decimalize the British currency. This portrait design by Joseph Edgar Boehm featured the crowned bust of Queen Victoria and is also know as the Jubilee Head. The Reverse is completed by four crowned shields of arms, which represent England, Scotland, and Wales, in a cruciform pattern. The reverse also features a Garter star in the middle with the four sceptres in the angles. 1887 was the first year the double florin was struck and in this year two different varieties were made, a Roman I and Arabic 1. This example is the Arabic 1.
This silver double florin had a mintage figure of 483,347.
