The 1884 gold ten dollar coin was minted in San Francisco. Christian Gobrecht designed both the obverse and reverse. The obverse features a bust of Liberty surrounded by 13 stars and the date below the neck. The reverse depicts an eagle holding arrows and an olive branch, with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “TEN D” surrounding it. A scroll above the eagle’s head displays a new motto.
The 1884 S USA gold Ten Dollars coin was struck in San Francisco and had a mintage of 124,250. The S mint mark can be found above the work TEN on the reverse.
