1875 Victoria Silver Gothic Florin Coin In Used Fair Condition.

This coin has the die number 76 below the portrait on the obverse.

The date 1875 is written in Roman Numerals – mdccclxxiv and can be found on the Obverse of this coin.

The date and legends are readable. The finer detail has been worn away on this used coin. This is a good starter grade or space filler.

This coin comes in a plastic coin envelope.

The 1875 florin is a coin struck in 0.925 silver by the Royal Mint. The Obverse features a crowned bust of Queen Victoria with long hair in a braid. She is wearing a dress embroidered with roses, thistles, and shamrocks, the national plant symbols of England, Scotland, and Ireland. The inscription around the coin is in a medieval gothic style font in upper and lower case, which was unusual for the time.

The Reverse depicts a shield, the shield has three lions passant for England, a lion rampant for Scotland, and a harp for Ireland, with roses, a shamrock, and a thistle in the angles. A flower motif is in the centre, all within a circular panel with a tressure. The reverse legend is in lowercase Gothic style script, except for the “O” of “One”.

The florin was introduced in 1849 as part of the British coinage’s move towards decimalization. This coin was worth 1/10th of a pound or 2 shillings. It was more commonly known as the 2 shilling coin. It is equivalent to the current ten pence coin.

This 1875 gothic silver florin coin had a mintage figure of 1,117,030.
