The 1873 gold twenty dollar coin was minted in Philadelphia and is also known as the Coronet Liberty double eagle. The Obverse features a left-facing coronet head of Lady Liberty surrounded by 13 stars and the date below her neck. The coronet is inscribed with the word “Liberty”. The Reverse design has an eagle with a shield on its chest, the motto “In God We Trust” encircled by stars, and the denomination “Twenty D” along the bottom edge. This coin is the more common open 3 variety.
