The 1869 halfpenny was struck in bronze by the Royal Mint. The obverse side of the coin features a young Queen Victoria with her head facing left, this was the second portrait and also referred to as the bun head. The reverse side of the coin features a seated figure of Britannia facing right with a trident in left hand and a shield bearing the Union flag in right. The denomination around, date in exergue, sea behind with lighthouse on left and ship on right.
