It was the first half sovereign to be minted outside of the UK and is considered very collectible. The Obverse features a profile of a young Queen Victoria facing left. She is wearing a wreath of banksia, with the date below.  On the Reverse this coin has the word “AUSTRALIA” below a royal crown within a wreath of banksia, with “SYDNEY MINT” above the crown and “HALF SOVEREIGN” under a ribbon. This was the first time the denomination appeared on the reverse of any coin in the Empire’s history.
