1843 Queen Victoria Silver Four Coin Maundy Set In Extremely Fine Condition.

Each of these coins appear to have been cleaned. The four coins also appear to have an odd edge bruise or damage on the obverse above the portrait and on the reverse below the denomination.

Each coin comes in a small plastic coin envelope.

The 1843 maundy coin set was struck in 0.925 silver by the Royal Mint. The Obverse of each coin features the young uncrowned portrait (‘Young Head’) of Queen Victoria facing left, with legend around. The reverse on each coin features the crowned denomination dividing the date within an oak wreath.

Maundy money is struck in denominations of one penny, twopence, threepence, and fourpence. Until the 18th century the coins were given from the circulating coinage, and it was not until the latter half of the century that the four Maundy coins developed as distinct, noncirculating pieces. In most years there are fewer than 2,000 complete sets of Maundy money issued.
