There are harsh surface marks and tiny edge nicks on both sides of this used coin. The coin has had the initials EM scratched into the coin.

The 1831 halfpenny was struck in copper by the Royal Mint. The obverse side of the coin features the uncrowned portrait of King William IV facing right, with legend around, and date below. The reverse depicts the seated figure of Britannia, with trident in left hand and shield bearing the Union flag in right, with legend around and national flower emblems in exergue.
