1828 King George IV Silver Four Coin Maundy Set In Extremely Fine Or Better Condition.
There is some discolouration or toning on both sides of each of these four coins. The Twopence coin has a scratch on the obverse. There are light surface marks and some tiny edge nicks on each of these coins.
Each coin comes in a small plastic coin envelope.
The 1828 maundy coin set was struck in 0.925 silver by the Royal Mint. The Obverse of each coin features the Laureate portrait of King George IV facing left, with legend around. The reverse on each coin features the crowned denomination dividing the date within an oak wreath.
Maundy money is struck in denominations of one penny, twopence, threepence, and fourpence. Until the 18th century the coins were given from the circulating coinage, and it was not until the latter half of the century that the four Maundy coins developed as distinct, noncirculating pieces. In most years there are fewer than 2,000 complete sets of Maundy money issued.
