1746 LIMA King George II Silver Halfcrown Coin In Extremely Fine Condition.

This is a pleasing example with good details. A hard coin to find in this high grade.

The 1746 Lima halfcrown is a 0.925 silver coin minted in England during the reign of George II. The obverse of this coin features an older laureate and draped bust of King George II facing left with legend around. The reverse has the crowned cruciform shields with central Garter star with the date divided above and legend around.

This coin was minted using silver captured from Spanish treasure ships in 1745. The ships were carrying silver mined and coined in Peru that was being shipped back to Spain when it was seized off the coast of Lima. The word “LIMA” engraved below the bust on the coin is a reference to its origins.
