The 1689 gold guinea coin was the first and only time two monarchs (William III and Mary II) were featured together on an English gold coin. The obverse of this coin features the first laureate conjoined busts of King William and Queen Mary facing right, with legend around. The reverse features the first crowned quartered shield of arms, with divided date above, and legend around.
