The 1679 maundy Threepence is a coin struck in 0.925 silver. The Obverse features the Laureate and draped bust of King Charles II facing right, legend around. The reverse features three interlocked C’s, with crown above dividing the date, and legend around.
Maundy money is struck in denominations of one penny, twopence, threepence, and fourpence. Until the 18th century the coins were given from the circulating coinage, and it was not until the latter half of the century that the four Maundy coins developed as distinct, noncirculating pieces. In most years there are fewer than 2,000 complete sets of Maundy money issued.
