The 1672 over 1 maundy Threepence is a coin struck in 0.925 silver. The Obverse features the laureate and draped portrait of King Charles II facing right, with legend around. The reverse features four central interlinked C’s with national emblems in angles (English rose, Scottish thistle, French fleur de lis and the Irish harp), with crown above dividing the date and legend around.
Maundy money is struck in denominations of one penny, twopence, threepence, and fourpence. Until the 18th century the coins were given from the circulating coinage, and it was not until the latter half of the century that the four Maundy coins developed as distinct, noncirculating pieces.
