British Silver Florin Coins
The British Silver Florin Coins are collectable and were struck by the Royal Mint. The first Florin was minted in 1848, now an extremely rare coin nicknamed the godless florin. The British silver florin coins had a currency value of two shillings and a weight of 11.31 grams. These were issued in 0.925 silver up until 1919. From 1920 the silver was debased to 0.500 silver due to economic pressure. After World War II, in 1947, the florin no longer contained silver and were made from cupronickel. A final proof coin was struck in 1970 prior to decimalization in 1971. The florin was replaced in 1968 by the decimal ten pence coin, which initially had the same specifications. Both circulated concurrently until the ten pence coin was made smaller in 1992, and the florin was officially demonetized in 1993, ending its 120-year history.
