The 1905 silver Florin is a coin struck in 0.925 silver by the Royal Mint. There is an uncrowned portrait of King Edward VII facing right, on the obverse, with legend around. The reverse is completed with a standing figure of Britannia on ship’s bow holding trident in the right hand and shield bearing the Union flag in the left, with legend around, and date below.
The florin was introduced in 1849 as part of the British coinage’s move towards decimalization. This coin was worth 1/10th of a pound or 2 shillings. It was more commonly known as the 2 shilling coin. It is equivalent to the current ten pence coin.
This 1905 florin coin had a mintage figure of 1,187,596. This coin has a low mintage and is the hardest of the Edwardian florin coins to find, especially in high grade.
