This Cartwheel Twopence is a popular collectors coin. These copper coins were minted in Birmingham, England in 1797. They were the first official coins to be made using modern industrial methods, such as steam-powered machinery, the coin is known for its large size and weight.
The obverse features the draped bust of King George III facing right, with a Latin legend around it and the letter “K” on the truncation to indicate the coin was designed by Kuchler. The reverse design features a seated figure of Britannia in drapery, holding a trident and an olive branch, and surrounded by waves, a warship, and a Union Jack shield. The word “BRITANNIA” is incused on the upper rim, and the date “1797” is on the lower rim. The word “SOHO” appears next to the shield, indicating the coin was minted at the Soho Mint
