1897 LXI Victoria Old Head Silver Crown Coin In Extremely Fine Condition.

This coin has a nice dark toning.  There is a light scratch on the Reverse.  There are light surface marks and an edge bump on the Obverse.

The 1897 Old head Silver Crown, also know as the Queen Victoria vailed head crown is a silver coin struck by the Royal Mint.  There are two different edge date inscriptions in Roman numerals for this year.  This coin has the regnal date of LXI.  This coin was struck in 0.925 silver.  The Obverse features the effigy of the old head or vailed head Queen Victoria.  St George on horseback slaying the dragon completes the Reverse designed by Benedetto Pistrucci.  This particular Obverse design was only used on these coins between the dates 1893 & 1901 and was the last of the Victorian portraits.

This 1897 LXI silver crown had a mintage figure of 262,118.
