The 1893 five pounds or quintuple sovereign was struck in 22 carat gold. The obverse of the coin features an older crowned and veiled bust of Queen Victoria facing to the left, with legend around. This was the third and final portrait of Queen Victoria and is often referred to as the ‘old head’. The reverse depicts St George slaying the dragon, with the date in exergue.
The 1893 five pounds / quintuple sovereign coin struck by the Royal Mint had a mintage of 20,405.
