The 1887 double sovereign was struck in 22 carat gold. The obverse features the Jubilee effigy of Queen Victoria facing left, this portrait was issued to commemorate her Golden Jubilee. The Jubilee head was designed by J.E. Boehm. The reverse depicts St George slaying the dragon, with the date in exergue.
The 1887 two pounds / double sovereign coin struck by the Royal Mint had a mintage of 91,345.
